How to watch MLB without cable
Without a cable box, there are three legitimate routes to an MLB game: a live-TV streaming service that carries your team's regional sports network, MLB.TV, or a national broadcast or streamer carrying that specific game. None of them carries every game, and each has a different catch.

Regional sports network via a live-TV streaming service
A live-TV streaming service can stand in for a cable subscription if it carries your team's regional sports network in your market. The catch is carriage: not every service carries every regional network, and the same service can carry a network in one market and not another.
Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and Fubo, for example, all carry some MLB coverage and some regional sports networks, but the exact lineup depends on your market and plan. Check that the service carries your team's specific network before subscribing.
MLB.TV
MLB.TV is the league's own streaming package, built for out-of-market viewing. It carries a large share of games, but it blackouts in-market games — the ones on your team's regional network — and games in national windows.
So MLB.TV is the strongest option for following a team outside its home territory, and the weakest option for watching your local team live. There's no combination of settings that changes that; the blackout is part of the package's design.
National broadcasts and streamers
Some games are carried nationally, which means you can watch without the regional network at all. Recent MLB national windows have included Apple TV+ Friday Night Baseball, ESPN/ABC, FOX, NBC/Peacock, and TBS. A national exclusive can also preempt the local feed, making the national carrier the only broadcast route for that game.
The catch is limited inventory: national windows cover a small fraction of the schedule, and some require their own subscription.
What isn't on this list
ZIVO doesn't cover piracy, unauthorized streams, or tools that evade blackout restrictions and streaming terms. That's a deliberate constraint, not an omission: the product resolves to legitimate, sourced services and stops there.
How to tell which routes apply to a specific game
The routes above aren't interchangeable, and which ones apply changes game by game and market by market. ZIVO's blackout checker lists every sourced way to watch a given game that it can resolve, along with the region each option applies to, and says so plainly when an answer depends on a finer market than it can resolve.
Frequently asked questions
Can I watch my local team on MLB.TV?
No. MLB.TV blacks out in-market games, because the team's regional sports network is expected to carry them in its territory. It's designed for out-of-market viewing, where the local network isn't available.
Do I need a cable subscription to watch my team's regional network?
Not necessarily. A live-TV streaming service that carries the network in your market can work in place of cable. The key check is whether your chosen service carries your team's specific network where you live.
Does a VPN get around a blackout?
ZIVO doesn't provide or endorse ways to evade blackout restrictions, streaming-service terms, or league rules, and it doesn't recommend circumvention tools. The legitimate options in this guide are the ones ZIVO lists.
